Get started

If you decide to continue, we’ll arrange our first therapy session. If I think it’s more appropriate for you to see a different therapist, we will discuss this.

We seek psychological therapy for different reasons, and I personalise therapy to your unique needs and experiences. My therapeutic approach is pluralistic, which means I respect the diversity of people’s experiences and the range of available therapeutic approaches.

I combine straightforwardness with sensitivity, combine my psychological expertise with your perspectives and I see therapy as a team activity that’s adaptable to your preferences and needs. We look at what connects and shapes the present from your experiences, and I provide a menu of evidence-based interventions. These include using humanistic, CBT and compassion-focused approaches and Schema-informed therapy. This has helped people feel connected, improve relationships, break unhelpful cycles, manage their emotions and make sense of their story.

I hope to establish an environment where you can begin to feel comfortable working with me.

First session

We will continue to explore and expand on the experiences discussed in the initial consultation. We will also be able to talk further about our working agreement and other factors you think are important for us to work together. We will set an initial number of sessions to meet before reviewing our work. I may use questionnaires about your health and wellbeing that we can revisit during therapy to help us evaluate whether our approach is effective for you.

Continuing therapy

The following sessions will align with important themes related to your experiences and therapy focus. We will collaborate on a formulation, a framework to help us understand problems or difficulties and why they may be happening. We will also discuss therapeutic interventions that could benefit you. If we think it will be helpful, we might use some reading or activities between sessions.
We will regularly review how you’re finding working with me.

Ending therapy

Ending is an important part of the therapeutic process. It can provide closure and allow you to reflect on what has happened during therapy. A planned or agreed-upon ending would involve us focusing on these points.
At times, endings can be forced or unexpected due to circumstances, such as relocating, or people may stop attending if they feel therapy is not working. You can end our work together for any reason at any time and where possible we will meet for a final session.

Common questions about therapy

  • Is therapy private?

We will both agree to meet for therapy in a private space. I use Google Meet for online therapy sessions. I cannot disclose information unless you have given consent, but there are limits to this confidentiality. I need to share information with relevant parties when there is a risk of harm to or from a client, or a child, or a vulnerable adult is at risk of harm.

  • How long do sessions last?

Sessions last up to 50 minutes. If it is more accessible, we can discuss the possibility of meeting for shorter or longer sessions.

  • How many sessions will I need?

This varies between everyone and what they are seeking therapy for. Many clients opt for open-ended sessions. We regularly review our work together to ensure we’re aligned with your therapeutic goals and review progress.

  • What if I’m unsure about the work we do?

I’m happy to discuss any questions you might have about interventions. We regularly review our work together, and I welcome feedback during therapy. It is beneficial to let me know if something is not working or if you disagree with something. Our therapy plan is flexible to ensure that what we do matches your hopes for therapy. If, during our work, you will benefit from working with a different therapist, we can discuss this.

  • How are sessions paid for?

The fee is £95 per session and paid before your session takes place via bank transfer. I do not use packages or subscriptions, so sessions are paid on a ‘per session’ basis.

  • Can sessions be carried out in Cantonese/Mandarin?

No, I can only provide therapy in English.
